Ushers' Guild

A point that many people in the Church do not know is that the modern role of the Usher goes back to the beginning of the Christianity with the "door watchers" that would guard the doors during divine service and watch for authorities. The roles and responsibilities of the Usher have changed slightly over the years; however, we still remain the door watchers in that we are usually the first person you one sees when coming to church. It is the Ushers' job to welcome, guide, and direct people into the Lord's House. The Guild of Ushers at St. Luke's Church has over fifty-five members that share in the weekly duties, guided by a leadership team. They provide assistance for most services at St. Luke's, including funerals, weddings, and other special events. In addition to coordinating the Ushers for services, the leadership team brings consistency and organization to the Ushers' work. The leadership team meets quarterly to discuss upcoming events and needs of the Church. Recruiting new Ushers is a priority. We have an estimated need for another fifteen to twenty persons. All men, women, and couples are welcome to join the Guild.
