Membership at St. Luke's Church

Are you a new member ? If you have just joined St. Luke's Church, please take a few minutes to complete our New Member Questionnaire so that we may complete our records. Click here.

If you are not a member, the information below will answer many of your questions.

Baptism “Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church” (Book of Common Prayer, page 298). If you are already baptized, you can be registered as a baptized member of the Church. If you would like to be baptized or have a child baptized, please contact Clergy Secretary Barbara Green (828.6425 x208, clergy@stlukes-sa.net).

Transfer of Membership If you have been confirmed in the Episcopal Church or have been a member of another Episcopal church, please contact the Parish Secretary, Rhonda Jordan (828.6425 x214, rhonda@stlukes-sa.net), to request a letter of transfer to St. Luke’s.

Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation “In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the reponsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the Bishop” (Book of Common Prayer, page 412).

In addition, those adults who have been confirmed in other denominations by a Bishop in the historic succession (Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox), or the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) may be received into the Episcopal Church by the Bishop. Those who have been baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church and wish to recommit themselves to the life of faith may choose to reaffirm their baptismal covenant with the Bishop.

The Bishop visits St. Luke’s twice yearly, in November and May. To learn more about classes to prepare you for confirmation, reception or reaffirmation, please contact the Rev. Dr. Chip Prehn (828.6425 x210, chip@stlukes-sa.net).

St. Luke’s is a very active and diverse parish, and there are many opportunities to become involved in the church community. We host Newcomer Receptions several times a year to introduce new members to our clergy, staff and lay leaders and the many ways one can become involved at St. Luke’s.

If you have questions about becoming a member or getting involved, please call Elizabeth Turner (828.6425 x212, elizabeth@stlukes-sa.net).
