Daughters of the King
The Daughters of the King is a order for women and girls who are communicants in the Episcopal or Roman Catholic Churches. Members commit to a "rule of life," incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service. They are dedicated to spreading Christ's Kingdom and strengthening the Parish's spiritual life.
The Rule of Prayer requires that Daughters "pray regularly and without ceasing;" to that end, Daughters compile a confidential prayer list at every meeting. This list forms the basis for each Daughter's daily intercessory prayers. Members and friends of the Congregation can add names to the list by contacting any Daughter.
In addition to individual service projects, the St. Luke's Chapter of the Daughters of the King has adopted a corporate service project - the provision of food for the families of St. Luke's parishioners who have died. Foods offered include either a hot meal or finger food for twenty brought to a home. Twelve families accepted the Daughters' offers of food in 2001.
The St. Luke's Chapter of Daughters of the King, chartered on January 3, 1961, celebrated its fortieth anniversary in 2001. Current membership consists of 44 women. The Daughters meet for prayer, study, and fellowship on the second and fourth Mondays of the month from September through May and on the fourth Mondays only from June through August. We welcome any woman who is interested in becoming a Daughter of the King to join us. For more information, contact I'Giny Burtner.
