Maundy Thursday is the beginning of the Triduum– The Great Three Days– preceding the Feast of the Resurrection. The Liturgy for this day recalls the institution of the Lord’s Supper and the washing of feet and ends with the dramatic stripping of the altar, which reminds us of our Lord’s stripping before his crucifixion. At the end of the Liturgy, we are invited to watch with Jesus one hour in the garden, just as his disciples were asked to do. We do this symbolically by keeping watch before our Lord’s sacramental presence at the Altar of Repose in the North Chapel. The Watch concludes at midnight. Childcare will be available for the evening service but not the Watch.
