St. Mary's Altar Guild

The members of St. Mary's Altar Guild care for all of the aspects of the numerous altars of St. Luke's. The Great Altar, the altar in the North Chapel, the portable altar used in the Chapel of Christ the King as well as the nave, and the children's altar in the children's chapel upstairs all have beautiful, special hangings, linens, and vessels that are used in the many services in our church. We attend to the set up and clean up of all the services, as well as the care of the inventory of vestments and other furnishings in the sacristy.

There are currently 34 members, some of whom are in training and some are part time. We have four teams; each team, led by a rotating captain, serves once a month. In addition to the regular services, we take care of baptisms, weddings, and funerals. We sponsor a Junior Altar Guild that serves at the school Eucharists.

Father Chip Prehn serves as our adviser and teacher. We meet four times a year, and we get together twice a year for a party!

We are earnestly looking for persons who would like to join our group or are interested in finding out more about us. Time commitments are minimal, but the responsibilities are serious. We have a mentoring program in addition to periodic training sessions. Working together as a whole group, we assist each other and try to make St. Luke's church a place where parishioners feel comfortable in their worship.
